In addition, Durham Police say that a third man -- who was awaiting trial for murder -- is also being charged in the March 23rd shooting at the Town Deli on Lawson Street which left a 14 year old innocent bystander critically wounded.
Durham Police say that the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Winston-Salem police arrested Dezmond Ramario Williams, age 21, and Michael Raymond Kelly, age 19, last Friday morning at an apartment at Green Oaks Court Apartments in Winston-Salem. The two were taken into custody without incident and were transported to the Durham County Jail, say police.
Williams and Kelly were also arrested Friday on charges stemming from a March 7th shooting incident on Lynn Road near Hursey Street. According to Durham Police, victims told officers they were driving on Lynn Road around 3:45pm when a silver 1996 Volvo turned around and followed the victims' vehicle.
Police say in that case a male occupant of the Volvo stood up and fired several shots out of the sunroof at the victims' vehicle, but luckily, no one was injured. Officers said they found the Volvo wrecked on Grant Street near Pettigrew Street a short time later.
Police say they are still looking for Kenneth Wayne Douglas, age 20, of Kent Street in Durham in the case where a 14 year old student was shot at a gas station.
In the Town Deli case, Douglas, Williams and Kelly were each charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
According to police, on March 23rd, a 14 year old boy had bought something at the Town Deli store on Lawson Street around 6:45pm on March 23rd and was walking to his mother's car when numerous shots were fired.
The victim, who was struck in the stomach, remains in stable condition, say police. Police investigators say that the 14 year old boy was merely an innocent bystander and that the the suspects were apparently shooting at two people standing near an adjacent car. The suspects and intended victims knew each other, say police.
Kelly is charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of felony conspiracy in that case. Williams is charged with felony conspiracy and felony aiding and abetting.
Williams was out on bond awaiting trial on a 2005 murder charge. He is one of five men charged with murder in the December 14, 2005 shooting death of 22 year old Michael Bailey on Keystone Place, say Durham Police. ::
