DURHAM - Sadly, Duke University reports that a young student was found dead in his dormitory room on campus yesterday morning.

Officials at the school identified the student as Chris Sanders, age 20, a junior art history/visuals arts major and student-athlete from New Haven, Connecticut.

The school says that he was found dead early yesterday in his room in Kilgo Quad.

According to the school, campus police are investigating the cause of death, but says that "initial indications suggest that no foul play was involved."

Duke University says that Sanders was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, the First-Year Advisory Council board and was an accomplished diver on the Duke Swim Team. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2004 where he was named All-State and Academic All-America his senior year.

He had received many awards including the National Merit Commendation and Notre Dame Latin Medal and was a member of the National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society and school newspaper.

The school says that grief counselors and residence life staff will be available this week and a counselor from Counseling and Psychological Services will welcome students today from 8am to 5pm, continuing throughout the week.

"It is with profound sadness that I write to share news about the death of a member of our Duke University student community...We have been in touch with Chris' family and extend our deepest sympathies to them and Chris' friends," said Dr. Larry Moneta,
Duke University Vice President for Student Affairs in a statement on the school's website yesterday.  ::
