DURHAM - According to Durham Police, another woman has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of David Clifford Cates which happened last month on Park Avenue in Durham.
Police say that Francina Maria Wiley, age 30, of Cardens Lane was arrested on the murder charge at the Durham County Jail, where she had been jailed since March 27th on unrelated robbery and kidnapping charges.
A second woman, Connie Mincey Troutner, age 41, of Salem Street was arrested last Friday on murder charges in the same case.
According to police, the case was first discovered when officers were dispatched to a cardiac arrest call at a boarding house at 809 Park Avenue in Durham around 2:30pm on March 2nd. Police say that when they arrived, they found Cates dead in his room and that they believe Cates was killed two or three days earlier.
Cates had been stabbed several times say police and investigators believe the motive was robbery. Cates, Troutner, and Wiley were acquaintances and investigators believe that more than one person was involved.
When Durham police investigators from the homicide unit looked into Cates' death, they identified a previous suspect in an armed robbery that had taken place in November at Cates' rooming house on Park Avenue.
On Thursday police say they arrested Walter Buster Harris Jr., age 29, of Logger Court and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault in connection with the November 21, 2006 robbery on Park Avenue. Harris was already in jail after being arrested on March 10th for breaking into another house on Park Avenue, say police. ::
