RALEIGH - A Raleigh woman recently won $196,043 playing Carolina Cash 5 in the NC Lottery and a NC truck driver won $400,000 playing the NC Powerball games as well.
According to NC Lottery officials, Cindy Stephens of Raleigh claimed her prize in the Carolina Cash 5 game on May 12th.
"I'm still not sure it's real," Stephens told NC Lottery officials. "I'm still pinching myself."
Stephens said that she picked her own numbers which represented family birthdays.
Stephens -- who realized she had won on Mother's Day -- said she will save the money for her children's college education.
Her ticket was worth $196,043 and she purchased the ticket at the Kroger supermarket at 6300 Creedmoor Road in Raleigh.
Truck Driver Wins $400,000
Robert Fowler, Sr. of Rougement, NC told lottery officials that he was thrilled when he learned he had won one of the top prizes in the May 5th Powerball drawing.
Fowler, who purchased his ticket at Food Mart on NC Highway 501 in Rougemont, matched the five white balls which pays $200,000.
However he also played the Power Play feature and as a result, his winnings doubled to $400,000.
Fowler visited the lottery's headquarters with his wife to collect his winnings.
The truck driver told the lottery that he let the computer pick the winning numbers.
"I took the ticket back up to the store for the clerk to scan," he said. "He was more shocked than I was." Fowler said he plans to pay bills with his winnings. ::
