CHATHAM CO. - Not far from the hustle and bustle of Interstate 40 and the cities of Raleigh and Durham lies the beautiful Jordan Lake state park area.
With beautiful vistas to be taken in by visitors as well as abundant wildlife and forests, the area is certainly worthy of a short drive.
The area especially comes alive in the spring and summer with lots of great things to do for the whole family such as camping or boating.
Although many areas are free to access and spend the day, some areas that have "beaches" do charge a fee for visitors.
For those who want to spend the night camping, there are several areas on the lake to do so and fees are $15 a night for non-electric tent sites and $20 for RV sites with full hookups.
Many of the camping areas have showers and bathroom facilities and also their own beach areas as well.
However, if you're hoping to camp on the weekend, you will want to get there early or even make a reservation in person at the Jordan Lake office at the lake which is the only way to save your space.
Even if you don't plan on spending the night, it's a great day trip for those in Raleigh who might want to bring a picnic dinner and watch the sun set over the water.
The green colors of the forests contrast nicely with the fiery sun reflecting in the water and clouds on the horizon.
