Wednesday June 27, 2007

DURHAM - According to the Durham Police Department, a man from Jamaica who had been deported once before was charged with possession of ectasy and other crimes.

The Durham Police said today in a media statement that Gary Gayle, age 41, of Kingston, Jamaica was charged after being pulled over for traffic violations.

Durham Police say that the department's Interstate Criminal Enforcement team (ICE) stopped the suspect on Interstate 85.  Police say that Gayle was driving a rental Dodge Charger and was speeding.

Police said that upon a search of the vehicle, officers found 2,495 Ecstasy pills worth approximately $65,000, 37 grams of marijuana and more than $12,000 in cash.

According to Cammie Michael, the spokesperson for the Durham Police Department, Gayle gave two different named to police officers before giving his real name.

"Gayle had been deported from the United States in 1998 after a murder and apparently illegally re-entered the country," said Michael in statements to the media.

Gayle was charged with two counts of trafficking in Ecstasy and one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, say police. Two other occupants of the vehicle were not charged.

The Durham Police believe that Gayle was going from New York to Atlanta from New York when he was pulled over. ::
