RALEIGH - According to the Raleigh Police Department, an apparent dispute on Sunday between former roommates led to an argument and later a homicide using a car as a weapon a woman was struck twice with a car.
Raleigh Police say that both the murder victim and the woman charged with hitting her with the automobile both lived at 1229 Bentley Lane in Raleigh. A third woman and a 15 year teenage boy were also injured during the argument, say police.
Arrested in the case was Victoria Graham Goode, age 55, of the Bentley Lane residence in Raleigh, say Raleigh Police.
She was charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and one count of larceny.
According to police reports, the homicide victim has been identified as Veronica Elaine Malone, age 38.
The second woman who was also injured was Tanya Lynette Mattison, age 43, and had been a roommate at the Bentley Lane residence until recently, say police.
According to police, she was the victim in one of the attempted murder charges and also in the assault charge. The other attempted murder victim is a 15-year old male, who arrived at the location with Malone.
Raleigh Police say that the larceny charge against Goode relates to property that was owned by Mattison.
Argument At Residence
According to the Raleigh Police, the three victims were at the Bentley Lane residence to load up property that belonged to Mattison.
When Victoria Goode returned to the residence, she drove her car into the driver's door of another car, striking Malone the first time, say police.
"Goode then parked her vehicle and instigated a physical dispute, which formed the basis for the assault charge," said Jim Sughrue, Raleigh Police Department spokesman in a media statement.
"A short time later Goode again got into her vehicle, drove down the street, turned around and returned to 1229 Bentley Lane, striking both Malone and the male juvenile as she passed the address and fled the scene," added Sughrue.
Malone and the 15 year old boy were taken to WakeMed Hospital, where Raleigh Police say that Malone subsequently died of her wounds and the boy was treated there for his minor injuries.
According to Raleigh Police, Goode was taken into custody at 2805 Willow Court in Raleigh and was taken into custody without further incident.
Goode made her first court appearance on Monday afternoon at the Wake County courthouse, where according to reports from WRAL-TV5, the judge in the first appearances bond hearing ordered her held without bond. ::
